Manchester United track in-demand French midfielder playing second-tier football

Manchester United are in dire need of better midfielders. Step forward Warren Bondo?

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick is expected to form an opinion of his inherited squad over the coming weeks but speak to any fan and they will tell you about their wish for a new defensive midfielder or maybe even a right-back.

We know from his time in football that Rangnick prefers to work with younger players, which fits in wonderfully with Manchester United’s tradition.

In midfield, Scott McTominay and Fred have their strengths but in terms of quality, it wouldn’t surprise us if United dipped into the transfer market to sign a player who can sit deep and get the ball forward better than those currently starting in the team. And, as Rangnick pointed out after the 1-0 win over Norwich City on Saturday (via Manchester Evening News), United also need to do better in attack.

While I can’t say I’ve seen Warren Bondo play before – his name is the latest to pop up in the gossip columns, so we will be sure to continue our background research on the player.

According to Le10 Sport (cited by Goal), United are among six clubs tracking the AS Nancy starlet who joined the second-tier club’s academy in 2018.

As of now, Bondo has made 26 appearances for the first team, with a tally of 2 goals.

The 18-year-old ‘s contract at Nancy will expire in 2022, so he can leave on a free next year and sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January.

Rennes, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are also mentioned in the report as clubs monitoring the French youngster.

The bosses at Rennes are looking for the next best thing after cashing in on Eduardo Camavinga last summer, with the France international signing for Real Madrid.

PSG you can expect to be linked with every homegrown prospect, while Bayern Munich have been known for dipping into the French market in recent years, so it will be interesting to see how serious United are about Bondo.
