Anthony Martial kept out of action with knee injury

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick provided an update on Anthony Martial after a knee injury ruled him out of the squad for Sunday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Martial was not pictured at training this morning and the pack of journalists at this afternoon’s press conference were queuing up to ask Rangnick about the striker’s fitness, especially with a quartet returning from injuries: Raphael Varane, Edinson Cavani, Luke Shaw, Jesse Lingard.

“Anthony trained on Sunday and half an hour after he had pain on his knee,” Rangnick told reporters, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“We had meeting with medical department and we agreed he should try to recover. We need to make sure he reduces pain in next few days and hopefully have him back training next week.”

The French forward will want a clean slate under his new manager after falling down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He also has a lot to prove to United fans who fear he’s too inconsistent and has failed to reach the heights they thought he would.

Rangnick is bound to give chances to players if they adapt to his methods and players like Martial all have a golden chance of getting back into contention for starting places.

Martial has a lot of work to do.
