Manchester United ‘expected’ to make move for Declan Rice

Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo all joined Manchester United this summer but a concrete move for a defensive midfielder was never made.

United’s lack of midfield presence when Scott McTominay is unavailable has been obvious this season, with Fred and Matic struggling so far this season.

There was no indication United were desperate to sign a midfielder but according to a new report, the club is now ‘expected’ to make a move for West Ham star Declan Rice next summer. That’s according to The Guardian, who adds that Chelsea and Manchester City are also monitoring the situation.

Furthermore, it’s claimed that it’s unlikely West Ham will be able to reject a ‘massive offer’ for Rice, with the young midfielder already rejecting two contract renewals.

The 22-year-old is a mainstay in David Moyes’ midfield and has even become a regular under Gareth Southgate, most notably helping England reach the Euro 2020 final.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham’s valuation of Rice would scupper a move but Manchester United’s interest in the player hasn’t gone under the radar.
