Solskjaer intervenes to prevent Anthony Martial exit

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided to keep hold of Anthony Martial, despite claims he could make a deadline switch back to France.

It was reported earlier today that super-agent Jorge Mendes was trying to engineer a move for Martial to join Paris Saint-Germain, amid suggestions Real Madrid could make a late but successful bid to sign Kylian Mbappe. That no longer appears to be the case with the Ligue 1 outfit keeping the France international – seemingly in a bid to build on last season by winning the Champions League after adding Lionel Messi and other talented players to the squad.

According to Spanish outlet Madridista Real, talks were held with PSG over a potential swoop for Martial. On top of that, L’Equipe (H/t GFFN), the striker also rejected the chance to join Lyon.

However, The Athletic, a source with may more credibility, has added an update to these claims with Laurie Whitwell providing an update on Martial and Edinson Cavani.

He wrote: “Manchester United have no intention of allowing Edinson Cavani or Anthony Martial to leave on deadline day.”

Whitwell adds: “Intermediaries in discussions with Paris Saint-Germain are said to have proposed Martial in case Kylian Mbappe departs for Real Madrid, but at this late stage Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the Frenchman in his squad.”

Last chance saloon for Martial?

Fingers crossed he proves himself.

  1. It really is quite clear that Ole has absolutely no idea.
Martial, Jones, VDB and Lingard should not be at the club. 3 are not good enough and VDB should be allowed to play for another team.
