Video: Raphael Varane sends message to fans from Man Utd training ground

The opening weekend of the Premier League is turning out to be the perfect one for Manchester United fans, having seen their side confirm the transfer of Raphael Varane before comfortably seeing off Leeds United in a 5-1 win.

Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba will steal the headlines for their displays in the win but the buzz around Varane’s unveiling is still hanging around after the club chose a more traditional approach, opposed to the modern edit and montage announcements.

Varane was welcomed with open arms by the 75,000 in attendance at Old Trafford and has now thanked the fans for the atmosphere, insisting he is ready to start the hard work.

“Hi everyone, I’m very excited to be here. Thanks for the atmosphere at Old Trafford, thank you very much. I’m very happy to be here and I’m ready to work hard,” he said in a short but heartfelt message through Manchester United’s official Twitter.

Varane can be seen inside Manchester United’s training ground and if his professionalism in the dragged-out transfer is anything to go by, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be happy to have introduced another leader to his side as he eyes a winning run to kick off their campaign.

Varane could make his debut for the club next week as they prepare to make the long trip down to Southampton.
