Medical scheduled: Swansea manager hopeful of signing Man Utd player on loan

Manchester United right-back Ethan Laird impressed during his six-month loan spell at MK Dons last season and looks set to complete another loan move, this time to Championship club Swansea.

The Swans agonisingly missed out on promotion through the play-offs last season but will be boosted by the arrival of Laird, with a medical already scheduled for this Sunday, according to Wales Online.

Swansea manager Russell Martin confirmed that although a deal is not done, he is hopeful of completing the proposed season-long arrangement after Laird watched their 0-0 draw with Sheffield United from the stands.

“He was upstairs watching tonight, so if he’s driven all the way down to Swansea, I hope that he’s ready to come in,” Martin is quoted as saying by Wales Online.

“He needs a medical and he needs to sit down with us and discuss how it’s going to work.

“But he’s here and I look forward to seeing him tomorrow morning then we’ll have a chat and see where it goes from there, but hopefully that’ll be one that gets done.”

Martin, who joined Swansea earlier this summer, brought Laird to MK Dons in January 2021 and looks set to secure their reunion in the Championship as they eye promotion to the Premier League.

Laird made 24 appearances for MK Dons in League One last season, starting 23 of them and registering three assists to his name. The 20-year-old made his senior debut for Manchester United in 2019, featuring in a Europa League group game against Astana.
