Manchester United confirm squad number changes, Amad switches to No.16

Manchester United have confirmed that four players have new squad numbers ahead of the new season, with Amad and Tom Heaton among the first-team players to wear new digits.

Amad, who wore No.19 in his debut season at the club, will instead wear No.16, Manchester United confirmed on their official website.

Raphael Varane’s transfer from Real Madrid is yet to be finalised but Amad’s change could mean that the No.19 is reserved for Varane, who wore that number for the Los Blancos in his first full season.

Tom Heaton has been handed the No.22 shirt on a permanent basis, having been without a confirmed number for the duration of this summer’s pre-season.

Youth stars Anthony Elanga and Shole Shoretire have also been allocated new numbers, with the former switching from No.56 to No.36, whilst Shoretire goes from No.74 to No.47.

Both players made their senior bows last campaign but Elanga, in particular, will be hoping to make an even stronger imprint at the club in the 2021/22 season, having impressed in pre-season.
