Manchester United think Atletico Madrid midfielder is available for £45m

The Daily Mail have jumped on the Saul Niguez transfer saga by suggesting Manchester United are exploring a move for the Atletico Madrid midfielder.

It feels like the Spain international has been on United’s radar for some time, but his £128 million buyout clause proved to be damning obstacle – and not just for the Premier League giants.

The Mail’s report also suggests Atletico Madrid could agree to a deal for as little as £45 million due to financial problems.

United should be on the lookout for top midfielders following claims from The Mirror about Paul Pogba rejected the latest contract offer to stay at Old Trafford. The France star only has one year left on his current deal, so the Red Devils risk losing him on a Bosman in 12-months.

Saul is one of Atleti’s highest earners and his contract runs until 2026. It is believed talks over a swap with Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann collapsed after the player’s salary stuck out as an issue.

This could leave United best placed to sign Saul but talkSPORT suggest Liverpool will test the waters with a bid worth £34 million.
