Manchester United to rival Tottenham for Lyon star defender

Manchester United have been in the hunt for a long-term partner for Harry Maguire for the best of a year and although links to Raphael Varane are prominent, new reports claim that Lyon defender Joachim Andersen is also of interest.

The defender spent last season on loan with Fulham and despite being relegated with the London club, Andersen’s stock rose and is reportedly attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.

According to Foot Mercato, Manchester United are interested in the Lyon defender. But the Old Trafford club are not set to have a clear run for the 25-year-old, as Tottenham are also named as an interested party.

The French publication say that Andersen is expected to leave Lyon this summer after his breakthrough season in the Premier League, with a €30m fee cited as a possible ballpark figure.

Andersen, a full Denmark international with eight caps to his name, made 31 appearances for Fulham last season, scoring one goal in the process.
