“Shawberto Carlos” – Jadon Sancho hails Luke Shaw with Brazil legend comparison

Shawberto Carlos, eh? I like that one.

We’ve already heard Declan Rice and Harry Kane make Roberto Carlos references with Luke Shaw’s name, but Jadon Sancho has become the latest to give his England teammate the nickname ‘Shawberto Carlos’ after his performances for club and country over the past 18 months.

Sancho has already agreed to join Manchester United in a £73m deal last week from Borussia Dortmund and he will be looking forward to playing regularly with Shaw, who he thinks is one of the toughest full-backs he’s had to play against.

Although the winger hasn’t played much throughout Euro 2020, Gareth Southgate gave him a start in the 4-0 quarter-final win over Ukraine. And after progressing to the semi-finals he will want to experience more time on the pitch.

Speaking to England’s YouTube channel, Sancho was asked who was the toughest full-back to come up against — a question he used to compliment his new United teammate.

“Hardest full-back to come up against of all-time would be Roberto Carlos. We’ve got Shawberto Carlos here.”
