Manchester United plan improved contract for Luke Shaw after incredible Euro 2020

Manchester United are reportedly preparing a new contract for Luke Shaw after his dramatic turnaround in becoming one of the world’s best left-backs.

He is currently playing for England at Euro 2020 and you would be hard pushed to find a better left-back at the tournament. Italy’s Leonardo Spinazzola could be a close second but his summer came to end as he ruptured an Achilles tendon in his country’s 2-1 quarter-final win over Belgium.

This form comes off the back of an impressive 18 months for United, which already had us calling him the best left-back that the Premier League has to offer. Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he’s become five times the player he was under Jose Mourinho.

Opinion: Luke Shaw’s resurgence is the latest reminder of Jose Mourinho’s diminishing powers

On Shaw’s currently deal there is a further optional year that the club can trigger on top of the two years that remain. However, Fabrizio Romano claims the left-back could be offered a new deal in the next few months as he is seen as a key part of the project to get United challenging for the Premier League title after going 8-years without winning it.

Shaw made 47 appearances for United last season as he provided six assists and one goal.

On top of that, Romano adds that Kieran Trippier is being priced at €40m by Atletico Madrid, who are under absolute no pressure to sell.
