Manchester United cool interest in highly sought-after Sevilla defender

Manchester United have reportedly cooled their interest in Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde.

That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who claims Old Trafford is an unlikely destination for the French defender.

On The Done Deal Show, Jones suggested that the likes of Raphael Varane and Pau Torres are higher up on the list. This could be a boost for other clubs in the chase to sign Kounde such as Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, as per The Express.

These claims have also been cited by The Sun — not that it makes any difference to whether you believe these reports or not.

From what I have seen in the past few months, for what it’s worth (very little I will admit), Kounde has a much higher ceiling of growth than Torres. He is much better in the air but people can see things different and those scouting players at United are qualified to do so…

Everybody that watched United last season could see that a new centre-back is needed if we are to have any shot at challenging for the Premier League title.

Harry Maguire has shown throughout the Euros that he is a very good defender with the right personnel around him, so I hope the board backs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in getting the best partner for the skipper.

It is pointless having lots of flair in attack if you struggle to defend.
