Manchester United urged to snub free agent Sergio Ramos

Reasonable shout from former Liverpool and West Ham player Don Hutchison, who says Manchester United should turn down Sergio Ramos, duo to his potential partnership with Harry Maguire being too slow for the Premier League.

It’s not often we credit anything a former Liverpool player has to say about United, unless it’s pre-match predictions, but this is something I’ve said recently about our apparent interest in Sergio Ramos.

If there’s one defender we should be signing that played for Real Madrid last season, I wouldn’t look past Raphael Varane, who it appears is looking for a route out of the Bernabeu.

Ramos will turn heads in the transfer market now that he is a free agent — after agreeing to part ways with Real Madrid at the end of his contract.

However, Hutchison has warned United against signing Ramos, telling ESPN FC: “It doesn’t seem a fit for me, Ramos at United. I don’t think he’s got the pace anymore. Add him with Maguire and they’re still weak. Lindelof’s quicker.

“You look at Man United on the pitch and there’s no doubting who is the icon and the best player over the past 15 years, obviously Ramos.

“But you pair him with Maguire and you think, ‘That’s a slow centre-half partnership.’

“Raphael Varane, that’s a fit.”

We couldn’t agree more.
