As ever, when the England team was announced on Tuesday evening, there was fury among supporters on social media. Jadon Sancho’s inability to feature under Southgate has been one of the main talking points of the week and the Borussia Dortmund winger was snubbed again.

Marcus Rashford, who captained England in their final warm-up game, didn’t start for his side for the third straight game whilst Jadon Sancho is yet to feature in this summer’s European Championships.

Harry Maguire returned from a six-week lay-off due to an ankle injury and Luke Shaw kept his place from the team which drew with Scotland last week.

Despite the omission, Marcus Rashford will be expected to make an appearance off the bench again and make a difference. The 23-year-old is one of the more experienced players in Southgate’s squad and will want to secure a place for the round of 16.

A win for England would see them finish top of their group, whilst a loss, with Scotland winning by two goals, could see them drop to third place.

  1. Clearly has other plans but if you don’t let your players play at all do not complain that they are no good or motivated when you do or have to use them
