Man United working on deal to bring Spanish defender to Old Trafford

According to recent reports, Manchester United are continuing to work behind the scenes on striking a deal with Spanish side Villarreal to bring defender Pau Torres to England.

That’s according to a recent report from MEN, who claims the Red Devils have been long-time admirers of the Villarreal centre-back – especially during his Europa League final performance last month which saw the La Liga side beat United on penalties.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to delve into this summer’s transfer market at least twice.

The Red Devils are on the verge of signing Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho and a new centre-back is also expected.

Seemingly on the lookout for a new partner to play alongside club captain Harry Maguire, MEN believe that Pau Torres remains a strong contender to make the switch – amplified by the fact he is also left-footed, an attribute reportedly high on the Red Devils’ wish-list.

Interestingly though, although Torres has a €60m release clause in his contract, MEN suggest the Spanish side may be open to considering a player plus cash deal.

Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane has also been heavily linked with a summer move to United with talks expected to begin shortly.
