Lazio initiate talks with Manchester United over midfield outcast

Lazio has initiated talks with Manchester United over a move for midfield outcast Andreas Pereira, according to reports. The midfielder spent the 2020/21 campaign at the Rome club but struggled to earn a regular place in the squad, starting just one league game all season.

Pereira was sporadically used by manager Simone Inzaghi but according to reports, the Italian club has made an effort to bring him back.

According to Corriere della Serra, via Sport Witness, Lazio has ‘opened the channels’ with Manchester United, with a view to extending Pereira’s one-year loan.

Maurizio Sarri is set to take over at the club this summer and it could be that a move is not sanctioned until the incoming manager approves, but the Lazio hierarchy is fans of the Brazilian midfielder, according to the report.

Pereira, who has two years remaining on his current Manchester United contract, is unlikely to feature under Ole Gunnar Solskjær next season and is likely to move on.

The 25-year-old confirmed earlier this week that a return to Italy is appealing, despite his struggles in the Italian capital.
