Man United keeping Napoli defender on defensive shortlist

According to recent reports, Manchester United remain interested in Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

That’s according to a recent report from Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Sports Witness), who claims that the Senegalese centre-back is one of a handful of defenders on the Red Devils’ summer shortlist.

It has been widely reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting a new centre-back to partner club captain Harry Maguire.

Several names are understood to be on the club’s wishlist, including Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.

Despite the relentless links, one name that had dropped off the radar in recent weeks has been Napoli’s Koulibaly.

However, according to CdS, the Red Devils are still in the hunt for the 29-year-old.

The outlet explains that the Italian side’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League has nudged duo Fabian Ruiz and Koulibaly closer to the exit door, with the latter in the running to make the switch to Old Trafford.

Koulibaly is currently valued at £43.2m, however, with just two years left on his deal, it is entirely possible a club may be able to negotiate a lower fee.
