Man United prepared to double shortlisted star’s wages

According to several recent reports, Manchester United are in the summer market for a new centre-back. However, seemingly with a five-man shortlist (as per Express), fans have been left which defender will arrive at Old Trafford this summer.

It has been claimed that the names on the Red Devils’ summer shortlist include Villarreal’s Pau Torres, Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmon Tapsoba, Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, Brighton’s Ben White and Real Madrid superstar Raphael Varane.

However, despite being linked with several top quality defenders, a recent written report from Mundo Deportivo (via Sports Witness), suggests it is the Real Madrid man who United are most interested in.

Those claims have now been added to by ABC (again via Sports Witness), who report that the Red Devils are prepared to double the French World Cup winner’s current wages if he agrees to make the switch to Old Trafford.

Varane currently earns just over £5m-per season, a figure United are reportedly prepared to double.

ABC also go on to claim that if Varane continues to reject and attempts from his club to renew his deal, Los Blancos will be willing to let the defender go for £60m (€70m).
