Eric Bailly set to reject Man United contract and seek summer move

According to recent reports, Manchester United could be preparing to bid farewell to popular defender Eric Bailly.

Bailly, 27, joined United in 2016 following a £34.2m move from Spanish side Villarreal.

Despite being signed by former manager Jose Mourinho, Bailly has remained a highly rated member in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

However, despite clearly being well-liked among both the club’s coaching staff and the side’s players, Bailly has recently seen his long-term future thrown into doubt.

It is widely accepted that when fully fit and firing, the 27-year-old Ivorian is among one of the Red Devils’ best defenders, however, continually plagued by injuries, Bailly is lucky if he can string together a series of matches.

Echoed by the fact he has featured in just eight Premier League matches so far this season, Solskjaer continues to favour a regular centre-back partnership of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.

Bailly’s exclusion, sometimes through his manager’s choice, but often by his lack of fitness, has now seen him emerge as a shock candidate to move on once the summer transfer window opens.

According to a recent report from ESPN, the 27-year-old, whose contract expires next summer, is set to reject a new deal and will instead seek first-team football elsewhere.
