John Murtough involved in heated training ground bust-up

Manchester United’s head of first-team development, Nicky Butt, left the club earlier this month.

The first line offered to fans was the inevitable HR line “to pursue other challenges” – question, what club in world football offers a greater challenge than United? – Needless to say, many were non-believers. Anywhoo…

Following Butt’s shock departure from the club, it hasn’t taken long for the nitty-gritty details to emerge.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Butt and new football director Murtough were involved in a heated clash before the former midfielder resigned from his role.

The report claims the pair were embroiled in a heated verbal exchange which almost ended in ‘blows’, with one source reportedly saying: “John was lucky it did not come to blows as Butty would have killed him, he was ready to really go for him”.

Most interestingly though, although the pair’s bust-up happened around six months ago, Football Insider claim that it is a sign of how Murtough is viewed among the rest of the club.

Described as ‘the eyes and ears of Woodward’, I suppose his appointment is making more and more sense with every passing day.

Good luck in the future, Nicky.

  1. United Need better defenders. A defensive midfielder. And a robust striker. Selling Lukaku was a mistake.Ed Woodward must stay clear of the signing of players department. He is no David Gill.
