Timothy Fosu-Mensah responds to former Man Utd teammate Marcus Rashford after latest cruel setback

Timothy Fosu-Mensah has suffered another cruel injury that will rule him out until the end of the season.

The Dutchman left United in January for more first-team opportunities at Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen but he has been struck by more bad luck just as he was finding some consistency for his new side.

Fosu-Mensah tore his anterior cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Freiburg shortly before half-time.

He was forced off after a non-contact incident where he fell awkwardly whilst on the ball.

As per Goal, Fosu-Mensah’s latest injury could rule him out of this summer’s European Championships with the Netherlands as ACL injuries can typically take up to eight months to recover from.

It’s a huge blow for the 23-year-old, who had started five out of six Bundesliga games since his January arrival.

Fosu-Mensah was a popular figure during his seven-year spell at Old Trafford and several teammates have sent supportive messages in the wake of his setback.

Marcus Rashford tweeted his fellow United academy graduate saying ‘Thinking about you’, and the Dutchman replied “I appreciate you bro’.

Fosu-Mensah made 30 first-team appearances for United and shares plenty of close relationships within the club from his time at Old Trafford.
