Zlatan Ibrahimovic set to be denied Manchester United return for AC Milan in Europa League

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been ruled out of the first-leg of AC Milan’s Europa League tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Swedish legend was forced off in Milan’s 2-1 Serie A victory over Roma on Saturday with a muscle problem.

As per the Guardian, Ibrahimovic has picked up an adductor muscle injury and will miss now Milan’s next two league games and the trip to face United at Old Trafford.

His absence will come as a huge blow to Milan, and Ibrahimovic, who would have relished a return to the stadium where he made such an impact in a short period.

Ibrahimovic scored 29 goals in 53 appearances for United and played a key role in their last two trophies wins, the Carabao Cup and Europa League under Jose Mourinho.

The iconic striker, 39, has continued his remarkable goal-scoring record in Italy, netting 14 league goals in 13 starts for Milan in their title charge this season.

Ibrahimovic could return in time for the second-leg if he recovers from his muscle issue.

United’s round of 16 tie against Milan will be played on March 11 and March 18.
