Reports in Germany: Haaland’s BVB release clause a lot higher than £68m

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has been in the headlines this week after scoring twice in their 3-2 win over Champions League opponents Sevilla.

On top of that, he has scored 43 goals in 43 appearances for the German club and his name has subsequently featured in the Manchester United gossip columns as a potential future transfer target.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted at his press conference on Wednesday that he is still in regular contact with Haaland — as per The Guardian — after the pair worked together at Molde. He made it clear that United and every other top club will be interested when his time comes to depart Borussia Dortmund.

He’s on the verge of a big move whenever the time comes. It could be this coming or the year after but I think Dortmund knew that when signing him it was a stepping stone move.

The same applies to Jadon Sancho. He wasn’t getting the game time he wanted at City and moved to a club that allows talented young players to flourish on the biggest stage.

Now Haaland is seen as one of the best strikers in the world, yet to join one of Europe’s biggest clubs. It has been widely reported that the proflific Norwegian has a clause in his current contract which will see a £68m release clause activated in 2022, as per talkSPORT.

However, there appears to be a plot twist. German publication BILD (H/t Sport Witness) claim the star’s 2022 release clause is actually a lot higher.

It is reported that Haaland’s 2022 release clause is ‘in excess of £100m’ [£86.5m].
