Amazon & Universal to release Sir Alex Ferguson documentary

Amazon and Universal have secured UK rights to documentary Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give in about the iconic former Manchester United manager.

Amazon Prime’s latest sports documentary will focus on the life and times of Alex Ferguson, the greatest manager in football history.

The documentary is produced by Bafta-winner Andrew Macdonald (Trainspotting), Oscar-winner John Battsek (One Day In September) and Bafta-nominee Allon Reich (The Last King Of Scotland).

You will be able to stream via Amazon Prime in Ireland and the UK from 29 May. The film is directed by Ferguson’s son Jason and was built on foundations from the great man’s motivation to make a film as he was fearful of losing his memory while recovering from a life-threatening brain haemorrhage in 2018.

Speaking about the documentary, Fergie said (via Sky Sports): “Losing my memory was my biggest fear when I suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2018. In the making of this film I was able to revisit the most important moments of my life, good and bad. Having my son Jason direct this film has ensured an honest and intimate account.”

We can expect contributions from his family and former players, including Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs and Archie Knox.

The Glasgow Film Festival will premiere the film on March 6, with the virtual Q&A session taking place on the same day.

It will feature unseen archive footage but ultimately we hope the film does the great man justice.

We all owe a lot to Ferguson for the happiness he brought to our lives.
