Ismaila Sarr’s agent breaks silence on Man United transfer links

The agent of Watford winger Ismaila Sarr has confirmed the Red Devils did have plans to try and sign the exciting attacker during last year’s summer transfer window.

Sarr, 22, joined Watford in 2019 after making a £27m move from French side Rennes, as per Transfermarkt.

Upon his arrival at Watford during a period of time that saw the Hornets back in England’s top-flight, Sarr emerged as one of the country’s most exciting attackers.

After featuring in 28 Premier League matches during his breakthrough campaign, Sarr racked up an impressive 11 direct contributions, including a brilliant brace against Liverpool in 2020.

In light of the Senegalese attacker’s inspired form, there were suggestions he had emerged as a genuine transfer target for United, who had compiled a list of alternatives to Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, as per MEN.

Despite the relentless links, United failed in their approaches for Sarr, with the winger still plying his trade at Watford, currently in the Championship.

In light of last summer’s saga, speaking in a recent interview with Panafricanfootball, the 22-year-old’s agent has confirmed the Red Devils’ interest and went on to reveal the details of their offer.

“During the summer, the Manchester club wanted to sign the Senegalese forward,” Thierno Seydi said (as quoted by MEN).

“At the last moment, they offered a loan without an option, which Watford didn’t accept because the loan was expected to be accompanied by an option with right of first refusal for the Manchester club.”
