Reaction to Solskjaer’s decision to drop Cavani against Sheffield United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made six changes to his side to face Sheffield United tonight in the Premier League.

The manager only appears to have one fresh injury worry, with Eric Bailly left out of the matchday squad. It marks Axel Tuanzebe’s first Premier League start of the season but we are not expecting the problems that would come with a newcomer into the first-team.

Tuanzebe has been around a while and needs a run of games to stamp some sort of authority on his place in the team. Tonight is a good opportunity for him as well as Mason Greenwood, with the sacrifice of leaving out Edinson Cavani.

I would have thought the Uruguayan would’ve been one of the first names on the team-sheet, although Solskjaer mustn’t be worried about his tally for the season yet. He’s shown he can score in all sorts of games for United, seemingly more prolific away from home, but it would have been nice to see Cavani score a few against a poor defence like Sheffield United.

It’s a young attack for United mixed with Bruno Fernandes’ experience. Greenwood gets a deserved shot in the team after scoring against Liverpool in the 3-2 FA Cup win on Sunday, and he’s joined in attack by Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, so no real rests on a night versus weak opposition.

Alex Telles also comes into the side on the left flank. We can be sure he will be looking to get forward and he’ll get plenty of opportunities to do so.
