Liverpool could be without defender Joel Matip this weekend as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes his Manchester United side to Anfield for the ultimate showdown.
The Cameroon international is ‘running out of time’ to prove his fitness ahead of the fixture on Sunday, despite making progress in his injury recovery, as per Dave Maddock of the Mirror.
This will come as a blow to Liverpool who have had a number of injury problems already this season. The biggest being the long-term absence of Virgil van Dijk.
Matip is back running and working with the ball on grass, but the Liverpool centre-back has yet to train with the squad — and he’s unlikely to start against United until manager Jurgen Klopp is convinced he’s ready.
This means we’ll likely see Klopp start with Fabinho at centre-back — but alongside who?
Both Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips are very inexperienced but it sounds like Klopp will be forced into making a decision either way.
Edinson Cavani and co will be licking their lips.
More injury concerns for Liverpool are welcome!
