Matic: Manchester United belong at the top of the Premier League

Nemanja Matic impressed against Burnley on Tuesday night and said the Manchester United team are happy to be on top of the Premier League.

The Serb is one a few players in the United squad who knows what it takes to win the Premier League title, as he achieved the feat twice as a Chelsea player.

Solskjaer used the midfielder smartly tonight and it allowed him to rest both Fred and Scott McTominay for Sunday’s trip to Anfield when the Red Devils will look to go six points clear of the Scousers.

After the match, Matic told BBC Sport: “It was exactly what we expected and we did a great job and deserved the points. We are top of the table and we are happy.

“We are exactly where we belong. Burnley are a good side and to win here is not easy.

“We know that we go game by game. This one was a final and now we focus on the next on win the same way against Liverpool.”

A brilliant message from a player who knows what it takes.

It will be a benefit to Solskjaer having the likes of Matic in and around the dressing room, and tonight showed that the manager can depend on him in games like Burnley away.

Now that we’re on top it’s important to note that we must focus on ourselves from this point and no-one else. Beating Liverpool this weekend would certainly help with that.
