Camavinga set for new Rennes deal despite Manchester United links

Rennes are said to be confident that Eduardo Camavinga will sign a new contract.

The 18-year-old has been linked with both Manchester United and Real Madrid after emerging as one of France’s hottest prospects.

You can imagine why R. Madrid would want the next best thing to come out of France with Zinedine Zidane in the hot seat, but Camavinga seems to be prioritising minutes on the pitch right now to ensure he develops into a better player.

L’Equipe claims Rennes expect Camavinga to sign a new contract before Christmas, which goes against what The Sun previous published, stating that United could replace Paul Pogba with the French youngster. Well, one day that could happen…

We are not narrow minded enough to think this means the youngster will commit his long-term future to Rennes. It’s a stepping stone that will also see an increase in his value.

He’s a player I would expect our scouts to be keeping a close eye on, especially given he’s apparently about to put an end to transfer talk for the foreseeable future.

Camavinga, who has made over 50 appearances for Rennes since making his debut in December 2018 at the age of 16 and earned three France caps, does not appear to be pushing for a big move at this stage of his career.

“It’s not something that comes into my head, that I think about constantly,” he told reporters on Wednesday when asked about his future, as per GOAL.

“I see and I hear [the talk]. These are things that give me pleasure. I’m at Rennes and other clubs, that’s not for now. We’ll see.

“I have two years left on my contract and we’ll have time to talk. There will be talks. To prolong my stay at the club that formed me would make me happy.

“Obviously, the big clubs are a dream. After that I could not name one in particular.”
