Manchester United statement on Alex Telles amid fresh COVID-19 claims

Manchester United has confirmed in a statement they will assess Alex Telles upon his return to Manchester from international duty later this week.

The fact United are making this statement (via ManUtd.com) doesn’t bode well for good news, or am I guilty of overthinking the situation? Reports in Brazil have suggested Telles has tested positive for COVID-19 a second time and could therefore miss their match against Uruguay on Tuesday night.

United’s statement reads: “It is understood Alex’s positive test does not necessarily mean he has contracted the virus again.”

We will await further analysis before commenting as nobody at Stretty News can claim to be a science expert, but United’s medical staff are promising to monitor the situation in the Brazil squad after one member was omitted from the squad after contracting the virus.

Telles has managed just one appearance for United since joining the club in the summer. He was excellent against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League as he looked a real force going forward. His crosses are begging for a centre-forward like Edinson Cavani, who could feature against Brazil tomorrow night.

We hope to see Telles feature in Saturday’s Premier League meeting against West Brom at Old Trafford. Luke Shaw has been ruled out for the month giving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer limited options at left-back.

It may be time for Brandon Williams to step up to the plate again.
