Concern for Man United after Alex Telles’ Brazil teammate tests positive for COVID-19

Some concerning news for Manchester United’s Alex Telles.

The Brazilian full-back, who has just recovered from coronavirus, has been training with national teammate Gabriel Menino and news coming out of the camp suggests the Palmeiras star has tested positive for COVID-19.

This was among our biggest concerns ahead of the November international break after seeing players return from the last break after contracting the virus. Injuries being the other which has been an existing worry of mine with internationals for as long as I can remember.

However, the news comes from Sport Witness writer Lucas Sposito, who has always been close to matters in Brazil.

Sposito tweeted: “Brazil international Gabriel Menino tested positive for Covid. He had been training with the squad this week.”

The claim has been backed up by Globo Espote.

A number of Premier League players have been training with Menino this week: Alisson, Thiago Silva, Alex Telles, Douglas Luiz, Allan, Richarlison, Gabriel Jesus, Roberto Firmino.

United’s Fred missed out on a place in the squad despite performing well for the Reds over the past month.

There has been no update on whether a replacement will be named for Menino, but surely there will be doubt over Brazil playing the rest of their internationals fixtures?

Telles will probably face another spell in quarantine and with Luke Shaw ruled out for a month, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be limited for options at left-back.

Perhaps it’s time for Brandon Williams to step forward.
