(Video) Former Manchester United midfielder scores from near the halfway line for Boavista

Angel Gomes marked a milestone with his first-ever goal in senior football last night.

The former Manchester United midfielder, whose contract expired this summer, will be aware that goals like this doesn’t come around very often but credit to him for spotting the opportunity when Moreirense’s goalkeeper stood off his line.

Gomes joined Lille earlier this summer on a Bosman but was immediately loaned out to Boavista in Portugal.

With no apparent danger in sight, Gomes shoots from near the halfway line as the ball fizzes into the net. The keeper hardly flinched because he knew there was no stopping it from his standing position.

Gomes’ goal sparked a rather strange reaction on Twitter from United fan/YouTube personality ‘@rantsnbants’, who tweeted: “#MUFC just letting go all the man that can actually kick ball! First Gomes now Dalot! 🤣 this is hell!”

While I’d usually take such a tweet as sarcasm, it’s not unlike these fan channel folk to scream for attention with bizarre posts on social media.

How many games does Rants think Gomes should have started for United last season? Yeah, exactly…
