Lee Grant jokes about adding to Solskjaer’s headache over goalkeepers

Lee Grant made a rare appearance for Manchester United in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa.

The game being a pre-season friendly was the reason behind the keeper getting some minutes on the pitch.

With Sergio Romero being pushed down to third choice (unless he pushes for a transfer away from Old Trafford), Grant’s game time will be non-existent.

At 37 I don’t think he will care too much as he continues to pick up his wages, but that said he’s probably a good lad to have around young keepers.

He certainly has a sense of humour.

Grant was asked about Dean Henderson’s performance after replacing him between the sticks in the second half.

He told MUTV, as quoted by Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst: ‘I thought he did fantastically well… David’s come back from international duty as sharp as ever. And I’ve kept a clean sheet today and made the gaffer’s job even more difficult next week.’

Quality quote from Grant. I can see him hosting comedy nights at Hotel Football yet.

I don’t know why David de Gea wasn’t involved against Villa, but Henderson will be keen to get minutes where he can this season. Solskjaer certainly has big calls to make!
