Man United wary of being played to draw bid from Tottenham for Sergio Reguilon

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has provided Manchester United transfer updates in the latest Tifo Football podcast.

The reliable journalist claims some sources say there is an offer from Manchester United for Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon, but sources at Old Trafford deny this and think they’re being used to draw a bid from Tottenham.

This was my biggest fear when it was reported that United had been offered Reguilon because there’s a strong likelihood that his agents have offered him to a number of different clubs.

He’s not going to get the game time he needs at Real Madrid next season and a move is on the cards. I’m not confident the destination will be United.

On top of that, Ornstein says United are not prioritising a centre-back at this moment in time, which suggests that a two-week-old report from ESPN referring to RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano was far fetched.

However, Ornstein adds that United made an offer for Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar last summer but were unsuccessful.

Instead United signed Harry Maguire but he needs a better partner at the back than Victor Lindelof.

Our defence may have a decent record last season, but I can’t say I’m confident about it going into the new campaign.
