Atletico Madrid star flattered by Manchester United transfer rumours

Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez admits he is ‘flattered’ by rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The Spaniard enjoyed another strong campaign — whilst speculation grew over a switch to Old Trafford — but United ended up signing Ajax star Donny van de Beek this summer.

Although Van de Beek had interest from Spanish clubs, former Real Madrid playmaker and Netherlands international Wesley Sneijder believes the 23-year-old is better suited to the Premier League, as per GOAL.

United legend Rio Ferdinand described Saul as a ‘very, very good player’ (via Manchester Evening News) and there’s no denying he’d bring a range of qualities to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield.

But we’ve got Donny now and I’m excited to see what he brings to the team.

Saul has addressed United’s interested in an interview with Spanish publication Marca, and he makes it clear he is grateful for Ferdinand’s remarks: ‘I am very flattered that a club like Manchester United, or other teams that ask about me, take me into consideration. For me it is very positive.

‘And important people from those clubs [i.e. Ferdinand] speaking well of me means that I am doing things well at Atletico Madrid.’

I can’t see United making a move for Saul now they’ve spent £35m (via BBC) on Van de Beek.

He would have been a lot more expensive than the Dutchman.
