Leeds United’s record signing Rodrigo admits key Man United ambition next season

Leeds United’s record signing Rodrigo has highlighted his new side’s Premier League fixtures next season against arch-rivals Manchester United as the key games he would like to get on the scoresheet for.

Rodrigo, 29, joined newly-promoted Leeds earlier this summer in a club £27m record signing from Spanish outfit Valenica, as per Sky Sports.

The Spanish attacker has highlighted next season’s matches against United as games he would like to leave his mark on as the striker admits scoring past compatriot David De Gea would be ‘special’.

Speaking ahead of the new season which gets underway on September 12, as quoted by Manchester Evening News, Rodrigo said: “In the Premier League we have a lot of teams,” he said when asked who is looking forward to facing the most.

“Premier League is special because it’s very competitive, but of course we always want to play against Liverpool, Tottenham [Hotspur], Man[chester] City, but, for me, the special game is going to be against Man United.

“I already played against them with Benfica and with Valencia. The atmosphere of the stadium is very great.

“Playing against Man United and, of course, playing against my national team-mate David De Gea. It would be special for me to score some goals [past him].”

Leeds United will be looking forward to spending next season back in the big time after a 16 year top-flight drought was finally ended last season after they were crowned champions of the Championship.

The last time United and Leeds met in the Premier League was back in February 2004 and assuming fixtures are not altered, United are set to host rivals Leeds on December 19 with the return fixtures scheduled for April 24 next season.
