Darren Bent claims Dayot Upamecano is better than Kalidou Koulibaly

Manchester United have been heavily linked with making a centre-back signing this summer with the likes of Dayot Upamecano seemingly one of the favourites to be pursued by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Upamecano, 21, has become one of Europe’s most sought after centre-backs after he enjoyed a highly impressive break-through campaign in which he played an integral role in helping RB Leipzig reach last season’s Champions League semi-finals.

The powerful centre-back featured a total of 38 times in all competitions for Julian Nagelsmann last season and has become a key member of the RB Lepzig squad despite being just 21-years-old.

The young centre-back has been tipped with becoming Solskjaer’s second signing of the window after the Reds agreed a £40m move for Ajax’s Donny van de Beek yesterday, as per Sky Sports.

One person who rates Upamecano very highly is ex-pro Darren Bent, speaking on TalkSport earlier today, Bent said: “Koulibaly seems to be the one people speak about, but when I watched him in the Champions League, he wasn’t great at all.

“I like the Leipzig centre-half, he really impressed me and against Spurs in the Champions League group stages he was superb.

“He’s one I thought a lot more people would have gone for. I think he’s better than Koulibaly.”

United are rumoured to be in the market for Upamecano and according to ESPN could be prepared to make the talented Frenchman their second signing of the summer as soon as van de Beek is finalised.
