Dean Henderson arrived back at Manchester United’s Carrington training facility on Thursday morning, as preparations begin for the start of the new Premier League season.

Henderson sent a heartfelt message to Sheffield United supporters on social media on Wednesday, all but confirming he would not be returning to Bramall Lane for a third consecutive loan spell.

But his future still remains uncertain with no clarity on whether he will compete with David De Gea for a starting berth under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer next season.

According to ESPN, United are remarkably yet to make a decision on Henderson with discussions still ongoing regarding the 23-year-old’s future.

Henderson is unlikely to settle for the role of De Gea’s understudy after two outstanding seasons in South Yorkshire.

But Solskjaer has always staunchly defended De Gea regardless of the number of unforced errors the Spaniard has made during his spell in charge.

If Henderson does remain at Old Trafford next season, it will surely the spell the end of Argentina veteran Sergio Romero’s five-year spell at the club.
