Dean Henderson to make Crystal Palace debut against Manchester United

Dean Henderson did not expect his Crystal Palace debut to come against Manchester United when he left Old Trafford earlier this summer.

The goalkeeper is in line to make his Palace debut against his former club in the Carabao Cup tonight.

Henderson, 26, signed for Palace in a £20 million deal but he has not yet been able to earn the No 1 spot from Sam Johnstone.

Both Johnstone and Henderson came through the youth system at United, but the latter once felt he was on the verge of replacing David de Gea at the club. It has been over two years since that seemed like a distant possibility.

Now, Henderson is fighting to get his way into the Palace line-up. He will be aiming for a strong performance at Old Trafford tonight but we hope the Reds make it embarrassing for Roy Hodgson’s side.

It doesn’t help Henderson that Johnstone has made a strong start to the season. They will both fancy their chances to compete for a place in the England squad for next summer’s European Championships.

I, for one, genuinely hope Henderson is spending the night picking balls out of the net.

Crystal Palace predicted line-up: Henderson; Clyne, Richards, Guehi, Mitchell; Riedewald, Hughes; Rak-Sakyi, Eze, Schlupp; Mateta.
