Match preview: Manchester United begin Carabao Cup defence on home turf vs. Palace

Manchester United are preparing to kickstart their Carabao Cup defence against Crystal Palace on Tuesday, September 26.

It’s a quick turnaround for the Red Devils, who ended a three-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Burnley last night.

The League Cup provides an achievable prospect of silverware for United again; it’s safe to say their Premier League campaign hasn’t got off to the best start, nor has the Champions League, but it’s still early days yet.

Kick-off on Tuesday is penned in for 8pm at Old Trafford, where form has been significantly better than their results away from home under Erik ten Hag – a complete contrast to that of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign.

How the sides fare heading into the tie

United head into the clash with three wins and three defeats in the league, plus one loss in Europe. Meanwhile, the Eagles are completely even across the board; two wins, two draws and two losses.

The last five meetings between the sides have seen the Reds reign victorious three times, Palace once and one match ending all square.

The tie comes as part of a double-header for United and Palace, as they meet again in M16 for a league outing on Saturday at 3pm.
