Borussia Dortmund chief explains decision behind dropping Jadon Sancho

There was more talk than usual about Jadon Sancho’s future this weekend when the Borussia Dortmund winger was dropped to the bench against RB Leipzig.

The Bundesliga club’s director of football Michael Zorc has explained the situation in an interview with Sport1, saying: “We have had many injuries in the past few weeks and have not been able to rotate like other teams.

“Jadon is completely tired and told the coach before the game that he had no energy to play 90 minutes. You saw that in the game.”

German journalist Heiko Wasser claimed Lucien Favre’s call was made on the basis that Sancho’s head had already turned, in the direction of Old Trafford.

Although there’s no a contradiction in that report, with it being dismissed by Dortmund’s director of football, but Zorc is never going to admit that one of his top players has had their head turned by a bigger club because that would weaken their stance in negotiations.

He missed the first three matches of the Bundesliga restart with a groin injury, so it’s hard to believe his energy has been shot from playing too many games in quick succession.

Following his return to the starting eleven, however, Sancho netted a hat-trick in a 6-1 win over Paderborn.
