Manchester United are set to release academy player Dion McGhee when his contract comes to an end on June 30.
McGhee has been with the United youth academy since the summer of 2017 and had worked his way through the ranks to feature in the Red’s under-23 squad.
However, it now appears that McGhee’s time with the Reds is coming to an end…
According to Manchester Evening News, the club’s staff have made the decision to release the 19-year-old on June 30.
The news regarding the youngster’s release has seen club nice-guy Juan Mata express his support for his young colleague and take to social media to encourage McGhee to ‘keep going.’
All the best my friend! Keep going 💪 https://t.co/V2Eqz7wrmK

United are due to publish their retained and released list next week with a number of academy players in the same position as McGhee.
Being turned away is part and parcel when you’re a footballer but we like to think McGhee has learned enough from his time at United to have a successful career elsewhere.
And it comes as no surprise that Mata is the one wishing him well in the future.
