Fred reveals his two favourite Manchester United academy prospects

Manchester United midfielder Fred has been keeping supporters occupied with a Q and A session on Instagram during this unprecedented lockdown period.

We covered Fred’s three favourite United players of all time on Tuesday, and the Brazilian also revealed his favourite prospects that are coming through the club’s academy.

As noted by Manchester Evening News, Fred named Angel Gomes and James Garner as his two favourites.

Gomes is one of the most exciting talents to come out of the club’s academy in a decade, but faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford after struggling for game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.

The 19-year-old has made just three starts for the Reds this term, all of which have come in the Europa League group stages.

As reported by the Metro, United have renewed contract talks with Gomes’ current deal set to run out at the end of this season. The club are aware of interest from Chelsea, and still see Gomes becoming a first-team regular in the future.

Garner, meanwhile, has been outstanding as captain for Neil Wood’s u23 development side and has clearly outgrown age-group football.

The youngster made his first-team debut against Partizan Belgrade in October and would benefit from a loan spell elsewhere next season to become accustomed to regular first-team football.
