Solskjaer gives Man Utd injury update on six defenders ahead of Liverpool clash

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an injury update to the official Manchester United website ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool.

The Man Utd manager gave the latest news on the squad which has been hit with injuries since the beginning of the season.

He was asked for information regarding the availability of Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Axel Tuanzebe.

“Axel had a setback but he’s working his way towards fitness,” Solskjaer said. “Eric and Tim are fit and available.

“Luke is on the training pitch today [Friday] to see how he is. He’s been ill and he’s had a little issue. Diogo is back and Marcos is still not ready. He had a bad calf injury that took longer than we expected.”

The availability of four more defenders will be a boost for Solskjaer given he’s had just three fit centre-backs to select from in recent weeks.

Harry Maguire missed the League Cup semi-final clash with Man City due to a hip injury and that game really showed how much we need him at the back as United lost 3-1 at Old Trafford.

We don’t expect any of these players to start on Sunday as none of them will be ready for such a big game. Liverpool’s front three are lethal when they get going so there shouldn’t be many — if any — changes at the back.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a certainty at right-back — as is the case with Maguire and Victor Lindelof at centre-back — but the biggest question is at left-back…

Brandon Williams should be starting on Sunday. He’s the best left-back at the club and his fiery streak would go down as a treat at Anfield.
