Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has posted a message to the fans on his Instagram page after being ruled out with a knee injury he picked up playing against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

McTominay said he hopes to be back playing for Man Utd ‘as soon as possible’ after suffering a ligament injury.

The Scotland international was replaced by Paul Pogba at half-time in United’s 4-1 win over the Magpies and missed the game against Burnley on Saturday.

As noted by Sky Sports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reckons McTominay faces four weeks on the sideline, however, the Irish Mirror ran a fresh update on his time out suggesting it could be double that!

“I wouldn’t expect him to be back within a few weeks,” Solskjaer said after the win against Burnley.  “I don’t think we’ll see him, it’ll be more than that. But he’s always proved before if you give him three weeks he’s back in two.

“But I don’t know if it’s three or four weeks. It might be something like this. We just gotta find a way through it.”

Despite the bad news McTominay posted a positive update on Instagram, as seen below:
