‘He’d be a fabulous appointment’: German football expert says United are keeping tabs on former Bundesliga manager

Along with the pressure that comes with being the manager of Man Utd, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been subject to lots or criticism after a poor start to the season.

There has even been claims that United are keeping tabs on managers around Europe – as part of some contingency plan.

One of them being Ralf Rangnick, who The Athletic’s German football correspondent thinks would “be a fabulous appointment.”

Rangnick recently left his position as Leipzig manager. He is now employed by the Red Bull company as head of sport and development soccer.

Answering questions on a.live Q&A via The Athletic, Honigstein was asked about Rangnick and United.

“I know for a fact that United are keeping close tabs on him. Whether that suggests that OGS is soon gone is another thing, however. I get the sense that they’re more looking at him — and probably others — as a contingency right now.

Honigstein added: “PS: I think he’d be a fabulous appointment.”

United should be planning for the future — even if Solskjaer remains throughput his contract. The club should be looking to unearth managers with good track records.

Just in case the red button is pressed on Solskjaer.

When Rangnick was in charge of RB Leipzig he managed Manchester United target Timo Werner.

If United’s interest is genuine, which Honigstein was unable to answer when asked, Rangnick could be able to swing a deal in our favour since Liverpool are reportedly interested.
