Report: Alexis Sanchez ‘deal almost in pipeline’, Inter waiting on final go-ahead

An update on Alexis Sanchez’s uncertain future has emerged from the reliable Gianluca Di Marzio.

The word on the street is Inter Milan are awaiting the “final approval” after having improving their offer for Alexis Sanchez.

It is claimed that a deal is almost in the pipeline after Inter proposed an increased offer to United which would see them pay €5m of his wages for the year he’s supposedly to spend on loan at San Siro.

United would pay the rest (€12m — without qualifying for the Champions League, player salaries were reduced by 25%) but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t in a position to allow attackers leave the club. The Red Devils failed to sign a replacement after selling Romelu Lukaku to Inter this summer, so there’s a risk involved if they let Sanchez leave at this point.

Questions will need to be asked of Sanchez though. Is he the right type of player to have around the dressing room right now? He is costing a hell of a lot of money to be sitting on the bench. Even when he plays, it’s to little effect these days.

But a long-term injury to either Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford could spell crisis for United this season.

The latest from Sky Sports is a suggestion Inter remain confident of signing Sanchez on loan this week.

The deadline for European clubs is September 2.
