Deal off: Man Utd call a halt to talks with Eriksen as he prefers move to Spain

Manchester United were said to be targeting Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen with reports gathering pace on Tuesday.

That saw Spurs emerge as favourites to sign Sporting Lisbon ace Bruno Fernandes, who has been linked to United all summer, though the London outfit could do with selling Eriksen first to raise transfer funds as well as freeing up their wage bill.

The Mirror’s John Cross claims there are no talks currently taking place between United and Eriksen, with the player preferring a switch to Spain over Old Trafford.

The club’s approach in the transfer market has been to sign players they feel want to play for United, stepping away from marque buys who in the past have flopped after making the move.

Eriksen has been one of the most exciting players in the Premier League since joining Spurs from Ajax in 2013. He would have been a great addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, adding quality and experience to what is becoming a younger squad.

United have today and tomorrow (up until 5pm) to make another signing, but with Eriksen talks taking a halt, it doesn’t look like we’ll see another arrival before the deadline.

Solskjaer could finish the transfer window with three additions: Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire.
