BBC journalist provides update on two reported Man Utd transfer targets

Reliable BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone has given us an update on reported targets Mario Lemina and Nikola Milenkovic.

Stone says that the club are not in for either of the players, despite several reports saying the Reds had shown interest.

The Times reported earlier that Southampton had given Lemina permission to speak to United over a potential switch to Old Trafford, but it now seems there is nothing in these reports.

This will come as good news to many United fans; Lemina may have been a useful addition to add depth to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad but it was highly unlikely that he would come in and immediately improve the midfield.

Rather than Lemina, Solskjaer should be looking to bring in an established midfield star this summer to replace Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini. Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and has the all round game to be successful in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina defender Milenkovic would have been a welcome addition this summer. The Reds desperately need a central defender for next season and cannot continue to rely on the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling to partner Victor Lindelof at the back.
