For the past two years at least, every transfer window has seen Manchester United linked with a move for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.
According to Tuttosport, as per Calciomercato, the Nerazzurri may look to sell the Croatia international in order to make way for his compatriot Luka Modric.
It is being reported by The Sun that £31 million could prise Perisic away from the Serie A giants, dropping their valuation from previous transfer windows significantly.
That may tempt United to go back in for Perisic, but it’s not necessarily an area the board needs to focus on with defence and midfield warranting priority over other departments in the team. The winger was also very much a Mourinho target which gives the feeling this ship has sailed with Ole Gunnar Solksjaer now caretaker manager.
The 29-year-old came close to joining United last summer, with José Mourinho at the wheel, though a deal never materialised and the Reds thankfully kept hold of Anthony Martial.
It was reported during the summer that Mourinho was willing to let the French winger leave, as per The Guardian, and he’d then presumably sign Perisic as a replacement.
However, the feeling right now is that Solskjaer has more than enough options on the left side of attack. If he is to sign a winger it would more than likely be for the right flank.
Only recently Perisic gave an interview revealing how close he came to joining United in the summer.
“It’s true that an offer from Manchester United was on the table – I was really close to leaving Inter,” the Croatian told FourFourTwo.
“Admiration from a coach like [Jose] Mourinho is definitely something that flattered me. It’s confirmation of hard work and good performances.
“When you’re praised by a guy like Mourinho – the manager of a huge club like Man United – it’s difficult not to think about such an offer.
“I’m glad he has a high opinion of me. These things motivate me to work and train hard, to achieve the best performances.”
Tuttosport also claim that Inter want to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. He’s a couple of years younger than Modric, but it’s still fair to say he is nowhere near as good as the Real Madrid star.
